I see it all the time.

In fact, if I see a small but yet persistent gain for new plies, it is usually
because of a positional superiority that will eventually tell.  If you get a
fail high (even though a fairly small one) that is even more telling.

I have found that I sometimes get superior answers by letting the program think
for one hour per move on autoplay.  Yace is very good for this.  Usually, by the
time the analysis becomes very deep, the root move is going to stay the same.
Or if it does change, it will take a stupendously long time to resolve it.  By
actually choosing the move, it can often become much easier to resolve events
that are fairly far in the future.
