CFC

2200+ Master
2000-2199 Candidate Master
1800-1999 Class "A"
1600-1799 Class "B"

USCF

2200+ (National?) Master
2000-2199 Expert
1800-1999 Class "A"
1600-1799 Class "B"

This is where I am deriving "Candidate Master = Expert" from. I would say that
a "weak expert" is a "weak candidate master". :-) To be sure, the ratings don't
mean exactly the same strength between the two countries, but IMHO they are
close enough. Other nations will have other "skill level cut-offs" for these
categories, but I think it's pretty rare for a country to have an "expert"
category, and a higher category for "candidate master" as well.

My current rating is CFC 2125 or so. Certainly I'm not a master player. I am
not a Class "A" player either. Because it's a Canadian rating, I'm a "candidate
master", but if someone from the US refered to me as an expert, I wouldn't be
insulted. :-)

Mainly I play against Crafty once in a while. I might win 1 game out of 30.
More by sheer luck than anything else, I sometimes think. :-)
