Hello Ed, On a 80 square board the KNBK should take ofcourse longer. You found this correctly as your number maximum mate value (40) is bigger as in plain chess (33). You probably found this usefull url already: ftp://ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt/TB/tbs/kbnk.tbs Not all namilov values are multiplies of 4 either and the number of mate in 2's is also lesser as the mate in one's. I think in mate #1 positions it is possible to choose between the knight and the bishop to give mate. For mate #2 the mate has to be given always by the bishop and in the coloured square (corner) of this bishop. I am not a ultra strong chessplayer but I know this endgame quite well. So I can test your database. A nice GUI would be very helpfully. Michel
