Michel, Here are the times it takes Vortex to reach a fixed depth from the opening position. I used 1 GB of hash tables for the search on my 2.8 GHz Pentium 4. 8 plies = 3 seconds 9 plies = 10 seconds 10 plies = 36 seconds 11 plies = 2:13 12 plies = 6:49 13 plies = 13:31 There were two researches at ply 14, so it slowed down here and does not observe the same branching factor.
