After 50 games the score is 9 (Crafty) 11 (Ruffian) 30 in favour of Ruffian. There have been 30 draws which seems to indicate that Crafty is not going to serve as a doormat here. Technical stuff: Pentium III 800 mhz No ponder Winboard gui 15 minutes and 5 seconds per game 50 mb of hash per engine Ruffian Leiden is using the Leiden book Crafty is using the old Crafty book (12 Mb) from Professor Hyatt's site Don't bet the family fortune on this one folks. Prof. Hyatt is not going to get my money on this bet that Crafty is going to be used to wipe the floor. Quite frankly it simply amazes me that I have access to so many strong programs for free. On top of that Professor Hyatt has the thing with the source just free for the downloading. The attitude seems to be "Here, this is my pride and joy. Take your best shot, I do not mind if you can do better". Me, I would hide my hard earned trade secrets but I am different... Thanks Professor Hyatt for the hard work and professional level of pride and creativity that went into your program Crafty that got me started down this computerchess road so long ago. Thanks to all authors for the free stuff (and yes, for the commercial programs that I shell out my hard earned money for!) that gives me so much pleasure. Later.
