The floppy disk version of H6 came with 99 installations, the CD-ROM version comes with unlimited installs. A deinstall was provided and recommended as it cleans up old unwanted Hiarcs files from the HD. > I have not used Hiarcs more than twice >in 6 months. I will say this again although I am beginning to doubt it is being read: You can install the floppy disk version 99 times! You can install the CD-ROM versions unlimited amount of times. > > I hope Mark (and other prgrammers) will solve this problem, as it doesn't make >sense to waste money buying twice when I can purchase something else. Like chess >books for example, an excellent value :) I really wonder where the problem is. Hiarcs allows an installation process which requires you to do the following on a standard configuration: start a DOS command prompt type "d:\pc\hiarcs\install" press return twice - this accepts the C: drive and the C:\HIARCS6 directory. press "y" to accept the standard installation i.e. C:\HIARCS6 That is it! The fact is I got my 5 year old son to install Hiarcs 6.0 without *any* instruction from me except the manual page for installation and he managed it! While I like to think he is bright, it does not take a Ph.d to do this! While I accept the point that CP can be a pain in the older versions, Hiarcs 1.0 to Hiarcs 3.0 where up to 3 installs were allowed, since then 99 installations or now (since Q4 1997) unlimited installs are allowed so I do not accept that it is less "friendly" in this respect than other chess software out there.
