I would like to thank Michel for taking the time to publish his win against the previous version of Gothic Vortex. At first, I was dismissive of this result since it was played on a slower machine (800 MHz P3) and at fast time controls (10 seconds per move), but now I can see the value in playing with such controls. Playing at longer controls would have hidden flaws in some of the Vortex evaluation function routines. But now, thankfully, some of the incorrect assesments have been improved. Here are the times it takes Vortex to reach a fixed depth from the opening position. I used 1 GB of hash tables for the search on my 2.8 GHz Pentium 4.
