Hello Reinhard, > >Hello Ed, would you please explain 'New Piece Values'. > >Reinhard As a result of the loss to Michel's program, I realized in reviewing the game that some bad trades were made by Vortex, and some of the subsequent play "did not look right". This is what I found out. 1. The strategic value of Archbishop + Knight was given a 1.5 pawn bonus in the opening instead of a 0.15 pawn bonus! So, on move 4, Gothic Vortex willingly traded a Queen plus a pawn for Michel's Archbishop and Knight! Right out of the opening Vortex was in trouble. 2. After castling Queenside, Vortex's king marched back into an open d-file that was soon to be controlled uncontested by Michel's Rook and Queen. The program behaved as if the King Safety code was not being evoked after castling Queenside. So, as a result of this post mortem, Vortex now has the strategic values bonus corrected for MANY positions which would have given the Queen a score that was too weak, the Chancellor was too weak, and the Archbishop was too strong. Countless billions of positions were no doubted assessed improperly.
