Hi Thorsten,

>so why do i get > 2600 ELO with hypermodern on the playchess.server?

any rating on any server is more or less nonsense - +/- 200 Elo is usual when
you play there for a longer period... if the average value increases somehow
that might give a hint that you get better - but it is nothing sure...

what you mean usually with strong is that you like the style how it plays...
e.g. like Chess System Tal II - which is not and has never been one of the best
engines. It was able to play very interesting and exciting games and even win
some of them, but overall it was not very successful against it's competitors.
And I think the team around Mark and Hiarcs know quite well what they do with
their standard settings - if hypermodern+agressiv would have been better then it
would be the standard setting. period.
But we are discussing here about strength. Strength resists in results, not in
playing style. And except you I have not seen anyone yet posting any outstanding
results of Hiarcs 9 + hyp+agg. - it plays not bad, yes, but the default settings
do also not play bad - and I doubt that hyp+agg is any better. Enrico and Mark
do know what they do...

You claim that Hiarcs 9 agg+hyp is best in blitz - now Sarah post some games
where it was shreddered by Shredder 8 (which is not that good in blitz like we
all know - look at results e.g. Heinz Walz had - or the comparisson of blitz and
active time controls at the CSS-ratinglists) - they are no prove, Sarah did
never claim that, but they surely show that it is way to soon to make
conclusions like you did: Hiarcs 9 agg+hyp is best in blitz. Show a little bit
more evidance then some crude server ratings... New paradigm... big laugh...

Greets, Thomas

P.S.: Of course I think that Hiarcs 9 is one of the best engines - but with it's
original settings.
