why not using winboard for this ? Start it with /debug, use a tail on the
winboard.debug and send the needed command to the engine by Alt-1. You can even
run two winboards, cut & paste the positions between them and compare the output
of both tails... should work like a charm...

P.S.: E.g. a nice tail for windows is available at my site... or use the
following link: http://www.winboardengines.de/download/tail.zip - the only
problem with it is, that when you use Windows 9x/ME it can only handle files up
to 64k. When you have one of those better (but still not good) Windows, like
NT/2000/XP/2003 then the files can be as long as you want.
