Hi Mogens,

it was... he was offered to meet in the next week Ernst A. Heinz in Frankfurt -
the place where he is studying... He could show to him some parts of the source
code to get evidence that it is original... I think not more then an hour would
have been necessary for that... or let's say two...

Of course the version of List which have played at Graz could not be a simple
clone. Not at all... but there is the possibility that he might have used big
parts of Crafty like the evaluation etc... Anyway he must have spent a huge
amount of work in it to get it as strong as it is - it is not a trivial thing to
get Crafty 100 Elos stronger... But of course we all do not know anything about
it right now because it could be still true that List shares no line at all with
Crafty - I still hope that it is the case...

Maybe you take a look at Crafty SE -> just looking at the output of the
different personalities would make you already think that those are all
different programs...

Besides: it has been done before - think about Dennis Grafen which have played
with a hacked version of Tiger 14 in an Online Masters of the CSS - or later his
next attempt of cloning (which was really stupid) with Pepito... With both he
did want to enter several Tournaments...
Or at another tournament one has copied the ROM of a Mephisto computer and put
it in a faster machine...
And of course we do not know how many were not caught... :) I hope none at all,
but who knows...

Greets, Thomas
