The position you post is certainly more interesting than it appears at first blush. Since the position does involve zugzwang, nullmove could be the culprit as you have guessed, but only the programmer knows the real explanation for his programs failure. I'm curious how other programs fair with this position. Ruffian 1.01 fails just like Ruffian 1.05. This contrasts sharply with Fritz 8, which gets the solution almost instantly with a huge plus score. > >Ruffian_105 UCI 60 MB: >D1 00:00 -2.11 b2b3 Kc4xb3 >D1 00:00 -0.98 Kd6c6 >D1 00:00 -0.24 Qa8c6 Kc4b4 Qc6xb6 >D2 00:00 -0.24 Qa8c6 Kc4b4 Qc6xb6 >D2 00:00 -0.16 Qa8d5 Kc4b4 Kd6c6 Qe1e3 Qd5xb5 >D2 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D3 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D4 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D5 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D6 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D7 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D8 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D9 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D10 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D11 00:00 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D12 00:01 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D13 00:04 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D14 00:08 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D15 00:17 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D16 00:33 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D17 01:04 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2 >D18 02:02 0.00 Qa8a2 Kc4b4 Qa2a3 Kb4c4 Qa3a2
