This message was posted by KK in response to my problem with RS232 connections. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NO NO NO don't use the Windows direct cable connection stuff. Simply connect your null modem cable to both serial ports when the computers are off then turn them on and open up your chess programs on the different computers and then in Junior there are 2 different submenus that you have to click on and after that follow the dialog boxes. Do the same for either Nimzo or Shredder. Either com 1 or com 2 will work. I have played junior 5,vs Nimzo 98 and va Shredder 2 that way but there are bugs. The following is an excerpt from my review of Junior 5. 11) As well, Junior 5 comes with WIN 232 autoplayer code that enables you to play Junior 5 on one computer hooked up to a program like Shredder 2 or Nimzo 98 on another computer using a null modem cable. I tried this out using the COM 1 port both against Shredder and Nimzo and found some interesting points. First when playing against Nimzo, Nimzo often lost the position and the match had to be aborted. Against Shredder often Shredder would make it’s move but Junior would not receive it and the match had to be aborted. In both sets of matches the clock times mean little because of delays in move transmission. If you want Junior to play white in these matches you have to press the space bar for Junior 5 and against Shredder, you must designate Shredder as the slave computer. If you want Nimzo to play white you start the autoplayer from Nimzo’s end. The colors do not alternate in the Nimzo-Junior 5 matches so to be fair you must have 2 sets of matches for those 2 programs. Only the Junior 5 engine can be used in AUTO232 mode.--komputer Korner >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I would love to do what you are saying but unfortunately that is what lead me to trying the "direct cabel connection stuff". I tried to get Junior 5 to play Junior 5. When it didn't work that's when I got into just trying to make the two computers do a simple "hello" to each other(handshake). I can't make this happen and until I do I'm sure I can't make the chess programs play over the null modem cable. Jim Walker
