Dear Chess Friends ! I would appreciate your advice in regard of my questions. 1) I have a very long discussion with my overseas friend. We both have pretty good computers, which have very similar hardware. Our computers run Windows XP, they both have 512 RAM, 80Mb HHD, etc. The only difference is my PC has Pentium- 4 2.8GMhz and it has 128Mb graphic card, meanwhile my friend’s PC is a bit slower and it has 2.4 MHz and 64Mb graphic card. But ! His Fritz 8 runs faster on his computer, why ?! Does it has anything to do with the graphic card, or maybe another application on my PC makes Fritz slower ? My Fritz shows around 900-1100 Kn/s, when my friend’s Fritz has up to 1500 Kn/s. How can it happened , if I have a faster machine ? 2) And another very annoying problem. 2 days ago I bought a laptop with a new ADM64 bit processor. Mainly I use it for my job, but also I installed some chess program on it. First, I installed ChessBase 8 in Programs Files and then I installed Fritz 8. I run Fritz 8 without any problems but then I decided to change the engine to another one. And the system showed a huge memory leak. It took around 10 minutes to unload Fritz and reload Junior. After that Junior showed just 0-3 Kn/s and I desperately couldn’t find any solution. I decided to go to ChessBase server and upgrade CB8 to its latest version , which is one year old. But I couldn’t do it because the program stated that my CB8 is up-to-date !? I registered to ChessBase server and tried to update Fritz-8, but I also received the same message that the program was fine. How can, if I made a fresh install and Frits is 1 year old and Ch8 is probably 2 year old ?! Can anyone point to my mistake and how to avoid memory leak ? Thank you very much, Regards, Anatoli Sirota
