There are many cooks too, some whose cooking is preferable to others. *What is Thought?* is not specifically about chess programming, but chess programming is used as an important example. I would recommend it if you want to understand the mind, or the difference between human and computer game playing, or possibly as a pedagogical introduction to computer game programs (see chapter 8). I have published journal papers on game programming and supervised work on or contributed ideas to experimental programs for Chess, Othello and Go.I've also created programs, but never personally a whole one for chess.
