Dear Chess Assistant, I have read about prices and conditions for CA4 at: http://www.chessassistant.com/products/products.htm Their is something which bugs me with CA:s upgrade prices/conditions. CA state the following: - CA4 new 163$ - CA4 upgrade from CADOS 103$ (one can keep the CADOS disks) - CA4 upgrade from CAWIN 63$ (have to return CAwin CD) If I remember things correctly one could upgrade from CADOS to CA3 for 99$ last year. Right? That means that all people that upgraded from CADOS to CA3 and that now want to upgrade from CA3 to CA4 actually are paying 162$ for CA4 as they have to return CA3 CD. People that upgrade from CADOS only pay 99$. What's my point? Well, CA3 was far from a finished product as CA didn't put in the findcopy.exe. Why should we be penalized for trusting CA? The findcopy.exe was promised for CA3.0 or at least in an free upgrade of CA3.2 in February 1998 (which obviously never arrived...). Now we end up paying 162$ which is more or less the same amount that new buyers will have to pay. My believe is that CA should act like this: a) People that upgrade from CA3 to CA4 should NOT be asked to return the old CD (if upgrade is 63$). b) People that upgrade from CA3 to CA4 should - if CA3 CD still has to be send in - pay a lesser amount then 63$. Let's say 30$. As you reckon CA will face the same problem with customers as Schroeder did after his price cut on Rebel 10. As an owner of both CA2 and CA3 the best thing for me seems to be to sell my CA3 CD for 70$ to a person that want to buy the new CA4 for 163$. I will then upgrade from CADOS to CA4 for 99$ and he will upgrade from CA3 to CA4 for 63$. The effect would be: Price for me = 29$ my gain = +34$ Price for new buyer = 133$ his gain = +30$ Loss for CA will be 64$. If CA choose strategy b) you will only lose 33$ and you will continue having good relations with your faithful customers which have only paid 30$ (if they upgrade to CA4) for having the opportunity to 'rent' CA3 for a years time.
