Fritz sacrificed a pawn in the opening against Movei and later sacrificed another pawn only to lose the game(see thorsten's tournament). Movei sacrificed rook for bishop and pawn against Junior in the ICC tournament and got a winning position but it does not prove that the sacrifice was correct. I thought during the game that the sacrifice was a blunder because the socre of movei dropped after the sacrifice inspite of the fact that it was always positive for itself). I only know that it is not simple. Movei also sacrificed a pawn against Comet in the ICC tournament but got initiative and Comet returned the pawn in order to develop the pieces. Crafty sacrificed a pawn against Yace in the first move out of book in the ICC tournament. Yace did not capture b2 but lost very fast and maybe capturing the pawn was better for it inspite of the fact that crafty has positional compensation(Crafty expected capturing the pawn based on its pv) Uri
