Where did that urban legen start?

I could be wrong...

Older chess programs would clear their hash tables after each move. And it took
the computer time to clear a hugh hash table at fast time controls. Slowing down
the chess program.

Clearing of the hash tables is no longer done in most of the stronger programs
of today. So now bigger is better.
