there are many typical modifications. but they depend heavily on the pawn
structure too of course :-)

some general ideas:

-> pawns on both wings => bishop > knight
-> pawns on one wing => knight > bishop
-> very open position, pawns on both wings => rook+pawn often > knight + bishop
-> rook + 2 pawns often < 2 bishops if additional pawns and no passers for the
rook.
-> few pawns left and all on one wing => rook + 1-2 pawns might hold against
queen
-> few pawns left and all on one wing => minor + 0-1 pawns might hold against
rook
-> pawns on both wings left => rook wins easily against minor + 1-2 pawns
