If you want to use a computer in your correspondence games, you will probably be able to find a rationale for doing so. "Man is not a rational animal, he is a rationalizing animal." (I can't remember who said that) I play USCF postal chess, where the use of analytical engines is still illegal. I don't use them because I prefer to play my own game, mistakes and all. I will use them to analyze after the game is over, to see if there were missed tactical shots. I don't ask other players for advice either, this is also prohibited. I believe, however, that many other organizations now allow unrestricted use of computers, and permit you to ask advice of anyone. If you are playing in one of these groups, and it gives you any pleasure to use a computer or the advice of a friend, then go to it and have fun! If you are uncertain what the rules allow, then contact the organization that you are playing in. Marc Plum
