I am about equally clueless in both games, and should therefore count as a
neutral
observer.  I mostly agree with the assessment above.  1-kyu in Go seems roughly
equivalent to 1800-1900 in chess, IMHO.

Another interesting question, to which we will probably never know the answer,
is how close the top players in each game is to a hypothetical perfect player.
From what I have read, it seems that most of the top Go players are confident
that they would win with a 4-stone handicap.  Considering the size and
complexity
of the game, and how utterly chanceless I feel with such a small handicap i my
favor against even moderately strong human amateurs, I think this is truly
amazing.
