Go up one level in this thread

there seems to be two distinct prevailing ideas on this subject.
there are more,i'm just sticking to the top two.
not in any particular order.
#1.computers and chess programs will destroy the game of chess otbp.
#2.computers and chess programs will help in a myriad of different ways
in otbp.
hmmm...,where do we go from here?

Mike,

I long for otbp but nobody in my neighborhood wants to lose. I am only a USCF
Class A to Expert in playing strength. Most of the programs that I use are only
for positional analysis. Fritz 5.32 on an old 333 Mhz PII is strong enough for
me. I always choose open positions because I hate draws. I usually lose.

Shredder 8.0 on my AMD 1500 Mhz is fun to lose to. I keep a tally of how many
moves it takes to get to a lost position and then resign. Twenty eight moves is
usually sufficient. Fun, because I don't spend too much time on this trivial
pursuit.

Cheers,

TJF

BTW Fernando Villegas and I have given up on going face to face with programs
with the expectation of winning any games. We are now into action combat game
like Battlefield 1942 and Call of Duty.
