Go up one level in this thread

The King ver. 2.61 is weaker than the King ver. 3.00. The King ver. 3.00
recently won the Dutch microcomputer chess tournament. I did not see programs
like Rebel 10 or Hiarcs 7 at that tournament. Frankly, it is in the programmers
interest to get the best score possible. In reality, the top programs are all
about the same....all very good but not as good as Deep or Deeper Blue. For
$30.00 to $100.00 we can all have programs that play in the master range. Most
grandmasters can hold their own at 40/2 against all these lesser programs. When
we start seeing PCs or MACs cooking at 1 Ghz to 2 Ghz handling 64 bit programs
that are 100 to 600 Mb in size then we will start getting more accurate
chess....and then we still won't be satisfied!

The King ver. 3.0\+ will probably be available in CM 7000. The play of this
program will be excellent. The only reason that the "serious" chess player
might balk at buying it is all the Rube Goldberg additions that make it appear
to be only for beginners. I think that the Chessmaster team has done an
outstanding job and will do even better with constructive comments about its'
hoakey features.

Now go and play the weakest program that you can find and then enjoy todays
state of the art programs.
