Doubt if that will help any.

You will still have to run a garbage collector and have all the other overhead
type stuff present in that sort of language.  A Lisp compiler will do as well or
better than a Lisp-to-C translator, I would guess.

Maybe a compiler could bring you to a factor of 2 disadvantage, but I doubt it.
For the factor of 4, I was assuming that a Lisp compiler would be employed, not
a Lisp interpreter.  With an interpreter, the factor would be 16 at least.
