sorry, i cannot subscribe to this.
e.g. in my setting i have put aggressive ON.
from my experience with older hiarcs versions, this often "worked".

so some times in it's analysis it misses

This with Hiarcs 9 has almost

hiarcs came on the market BEFORE shredder8 or others appeared.
IMO it did not disappear. there is always a hype when a new program comes on the
market anybody is only looking at the NEW program.

but hiarcs has not lost its strength only because shredder came on the market.
of course the original setting of hiarcs9 was not optimal IMO.
i am trying out different styles and IMO this helps.

I cannot agree here. from my subjective view hiarcs is famous for really great
attacks. thats also my impression from the server games.
hiarcs creates mate attacks.
the problem with the CD setting is, that it is not swiching ON all evaluation
functions of hiarcs, maybe because mark was not sure if this is all working.
or maybe he wanted to go a save way.
this made the CD setting a little colorless from the behaviour.

i switches the stuff back on and it plays very good.

mark wants to go the intelligent way, and this is his ideology for many many
years...

he began in the early years testing almost against Mchess.

Because he was convinced that a new chess program should be as intelligent as
mchess was in that times.

1993 hiarcs won the world championship title because his ideas about a knowledge
program worked against the other programs too.

now it is 11 years later.
but mark still tries to bring as much knowledge in the programs as possible.
he also has changed the search much.

>Nobody can win Shredder 8 at long time controls!

i doubt this.
the deep search of shredder8 is not working against ALL programs.
it is no precise search.

so the high search numbers do not impress me.
We will see how the new style plays on longer time controls against shredder8.

>As i didn't spent enough time with Hiarcs Bareev, what is your opinion about
>it comparable with Hiarcs 9? Is it more defensive, less stronger....?

? i don't know. i never tried it out. IMO this engine was designed to beat
humans.
