http://hydrachess.com/ UAE’s first Chess Software and hardware makes an outstanding start! February 15, 2004 marked the beginning of a victorious saga for HYDRA, a computer chess software developed by the UAE. This triumph is a source of pride for the UAE, as it introduces its first chess product in the chess world with unequivocal success.HYDRA was created by PAL Group, an Abu Dhabi-based Group. Three programmers, Chrilly Donninger, Ulf Lorenz, and Erdogan Günes, contributed to its creation. HYDRA is portrayed as a monstrous creature, in allusion to the Greek mythological monster which terrified its opponents, thousands of years ago. This appellation suits the computer software like a glove.HYDRA earned its first medal at the 13th International Paderborn Computer Chess Championships (IPCCC) 2004 in Paderborn, Germany, where it outclassed the winners of the previous IPCCC tournaments, namely the internationally known Shredder and Fritz.“We are thrilled about this spectacular achievement. This is going to be the start of an era of victories for HYDRA”, stated Mr. Basar from PAL Group. Mr. Basar also mentioned that the Group plans to launch ever more powerful versions of HYDRA, which will preserve the Greek mythology theme launched with HYDRA.“We are planning for a monstrously aggressive marketing campaign that would match the strength of the unrivaled new software”, announced Ms. Samia Bouazza, Managing Director of MULTIPLY, the Abu Dhabi- based marketing consultancy company that is handling the marketing of HYDRA. HYDRA comes today as HYDRA/ORTHUS, in reference to the mythological two-headed dog ORTHUS, that guarded the cattle of Geryon. It is planned to have the following monstrous successors: HYDRA/CHIMERA (three-headed monster), HYDRA/SCYLLA (six-headed sea monster), and finally HYDRA/HYDRA, which will terrorize the chess world with its nine-headed intelligence. The software is installed on a very Hi-Tech hardware with a very special architecture, which makes it one of its kind in the world. Such hardware is advanced to the extent that it may be used for scientific research in order to make breakthroughs in other fields, to the benefit of mankind. Moreover, PAL Group will be constructing a high-class machine, which is expected to make revolutionary advances in a variety of domains. “The chess software HYDRA greatly challenges the functioning of the human mind. Moreover, the chess software is considered to be the most reliable source to check the performance of the hardware, as it involves huge and complex calculations”, Mr. Basar explains. With the new UAE Chess monster HYDRA, the Chess world is in danger. Are human beings up to the challenge?
