I looked at my old inline asm docs, and I found the following statement,
paraphrased:

"you don't need to put gcc-allocated registers on the clobber list, it knows you
are fooling with them."

I will try to run a few tests to see exactly what happens in the circumstance
described above to see if it really does know what to do or if it screws up.
