If you don't know what I'm talking about, please read my previous post. I only have a very small static test position list to contribute with, but I'm sure that adding everyone else ones, we can come up with a fairly big one. The ones that I have are in my hard disk only because I found the topic interesting from the point of view of an EVAL function, but surely I've missed thousands of them. I bet you have lots of positions where a "good" eval can make a big difference in a search, and only some engines can find it. To start with, I suggest (this is quite selfish, I know) these groups: 1) King's safety eval. 2) Material imbalance combinations (based on pawn=1, king/bishop=3, rook=5, queen=9) 3) Positional advantage with material advantage (gambits). 4) Pawn structure in endgames. I know you can give a much better classification, and profit from it, but this is just a suggestion for everybody to follow. If everyone disagrees on this, we can have an useless dispute forever, and achieve nothing. My suggestion, which is as good as any other one, is based on typical controversies in chess programming (although there are many more). It's just a way of clasiffying positions in a rather simple way for all of us. Any other better suggestion will be great to have. Regards, Jaime
