Hi, > Of course he has his right to his oppinions, but somehow most of what he said > didn't sound very computer chess savvy to me anyway, what do you guys think? well, in my opinion he is quite right with what he is saying... The only point I doubt is that he thoughts that computers sometimes not play what they think it is best. That is wrong - they always try to maximize there evaluation. Correct is, that IMO nowadays evaluation is a bit more speculative in sometimes positional factors are considered to be more important then material. But this says only that the quality of evaluation is improved/different then it was some years ago. Or have you ever seen a program playing actively a trojan horse ? At least I agree with him that the battle is not yet over - it might take a long period until computers are superior to humans. Still computers are unable to make any plans even if it looks sometimes different. The current main problem for humans is, that a single move is enough to destroy the game and that computers are simply not impressed when they must defend. There is no psychologic factor in computers play where there is in humans play. Like Lautier says, for most humans it is way more complicate to defend - for computers this is more or less all the same... Greets, Thomas
