is the Muzio gambit where white sacs a full piece for development and attack.
it has been extensively analyzed and is considered to be dead even.  if you look
at the "old" openings like the king's gambit, bishop's opening etc. you can find
many such positions which are known to be even even though there is considerable
material imbalance.

i think your static eval test is a great idea.
