Ed Sullivan used to say "Tonight, we have a really big show." He meant a show of great interest. There was nothing unusual about size or duration. It can mean grown up. E.g. "I'm a big boy now." It can mean generous. E.g. "That was big of you." It can mean agreeable to. E.g. "I am big on Crafty and other open source chess programs." Probably, large is the first thing that will spring to mind for most people. But important is a strong secondary meaning.
