Yes, booth positions are quite cleverl I'm actually surprised that any engine gives a fair score for the side to move. Crafty is, indeed, more than just a toy; and therefore it's a good idea to contrast both your score and crafty's. If there's a big difference, you've either found a bug in Crafty, or in your engine.
