According to results of a quick analysis with Hiarcs 9 on my internet pc (which
is a bit slow though, 700 MHz), this position ist clearly won for white because
the threats against the bk are too strong. Black's going to have to return
material to avoid a direct mate. After the last move in your variant 27...Bh4,
28.Bd3 simply threats #1. It seems that only 28...Qd8 or 28...Rxf4 are defense
attempts which make some sense, but are not sufficient:

22...bxc3 23.Qxe6+ Bf7 24.Bxg6 Qb6 25.b4 Bxe6 26.Bxh7+ Kh8 27.Rh1 Bh4 28.Bd3 Qd8
(28...Rxf4 29.Nxh4 Bg4 30.Ng6+ Kg8 {(or Kg7)} 31.Nxf4) (28...c2+ {achieves
nothing.}) 29.Nxh4 Qd7 30.Nf3+ Bh3 31.Rhxh3+ Qxh3 32.Rxh3+)

(I didn't check the analysis prior to 28.Bd3)
