Hello Michael,
Actually there are 3 black & white sets.  The one I'm referring to is the 3rd
set "Staunton Black & White".  They do not look like drawings of chess pieces
but they look like photographs of the chess pieces I use on a board.  Anyway
it's nice to have the choices.
