Depends on what you consider affordable, but I wouldn't consider the Opteron in
the "affordable" category.

If you want a decently fast CPU for a decent price, your best bet is probably an
Athlon XP 32-bit. Maybe something around the Athlon XP 2500+, but you'll have to
check prices and see what gives you the best bang for the buck.
