I didn't know "Galahad" was taken until just now. :-)
The truth is the program was unnamed when I wanted to start
playing on ICC. I'm slowly adding heuristics and gauging
their worth by over the board play.

Did you know that a one ply searcher rates < 700 at 2 0 (ICC)?
Or that two ply rates about 900?
3 ply= ~1350.
Add check/capture quiescence it goes to ~1500.
Let it search to 4 ply (fixed) and it goes to 1700.
Add timing & iterative deepening, and the rating drops!
Probably because move ordering is still poor, and finding
the same answer takes much longer than a fixed 4 ply search....

Just some examples. :-)
