I tend to speculate that some players have a higher branching factor concerning analytical skills, which precludes a high OTB rating while being no significant hindrance in postal chess. The reverse scenario could possibly be a result of speculative search. So maybe computers and humans are not that different after all. This should apply to excuses for patzer skills as well.
