The explanation is that it is very very passive on the normal style. it belevies only on its tactical strength, but that´s not enough. Nimzo 98 tactical not as strong as Nimzo99, but much more active and on normal settings against other programs much stronger. Nimzo 99 plays a terrible chess often such combinations as: Ng6-f8-g6-f8-g6-f8, doing nothing but waiting and hoping for a tactical chance. Against positional good programs which are also tactical very strong, it have no chance with this strategy. But when you change the settings things are changing dramaticly: For example: In blitz tournaments Nimzo99 has no chance against Fritz or Junior 30min. games: Fritz 5 - Nimzo 99 (normal) 10:6 Fritz 5 - Nimzo 99 (Fritz) 8:6 Fritz 5 - Nimzo 99 (Rebel) 8,5:6,5 Junior 5 - Nimzo 99 (normal) 7:4 Junior 5 - Nimzo 99 (Junior) 5:7 !! Hiarcs 6 - Nimzo 99 (normal) 14:16 Hiarcs 6 - Nimzo 99 (Junior) 3:7 !!! Tournament games: Fritz 5 - Nimzo 99 (normal) 6:4 Fritz 5 - Nimzo 99 (fritz) 6,5:4,5 Fritz 5 - Nimzo 99 (Rebel) 5:5 !! (all on K6-400 with 256MB) It seems, that the normal style and the Fritz style are really bad (the fritz style is also more passive than normal!). Junior style is very good against Junior and Hiarcs, rebel style against other programs. Maybe the rebel style is the best, also in tests. But under all aspects Nimzo 99 is no participant for no 1 in sweden. Too passive and too much positional and endgame-blunders. Not a "round" program. Greetings Marcus
