The principle of knockout is there to get rid of participants as quickly as possible and just get left a final between program A and program B. Playing on then makes no sense if you are out. In case of a knockout where the world title gets decided by which program is the best rapid chess program; the chances i show up in such a tournament will be a lot smaller than with a 11 round swiss. And i speak for the majority of amateurs here.
