What are Ya All talkin about! In my book, REBEL10 is better because (it) has the guts ta play! Deep Blue is not even in a state of being assembled just now, so its like saying who is better; Rueben Fine or Larry Tamarkin? Well as Mr. Fine is dead, I must be better! Main difference is that Deep Blue could be resurected; then it would most likely be stronger, but so what? It was built with a huge hardware advantage in mind. Still, if I had to speculate, I would also wonder where it stands in regard to the rule of diminishing returns, as you get closer to finding some perfect moves. Didn't Deep Blue play some puzzling (and maybe dubious), moves against Kasparov? Maybe as you go deeper & deeper into the search, the ability of a program to find the (best) move decreases because of its very strength in 'seeing' that it has nothing furthur down that tree? mrslug - the inkompetent chess software addict!
