I agree that Ruffian 2.x engines may or may not be better.

That does not follow.  It's certainly strong enough.  For instance, it is about
the same strength as ChessMaster, according to Leo's list:

1    0    DeepSjeng 1.5 *          2734   0      236    Premier
2    0    The King 3.23 *          2696   0      68     Premier
3    0    Ruffian 2.0.0 *          2691   0      304    Premier
4    0    Gandalf 4.32h *          2650   0      340    Premier
7    0    Rebel 12 *               2627   0      68     Premier

And it is on par with Gandalf and Rebel also (both professional engines).

I coughed up $29 for a download and I am not sorry about it.  I think it is a
good idea to encourage new professional engines.
