Thanks for the comment Fernando.

As it is, KarinsMom and I are working hard at attempting to balance between too
many activities, too few, too challenging, too easy, etc.

At the moment, Karin's outside of school activities include ballet (last 3
years), basketball (last 2 months), piano (last 3 months), soccer (in season),
and running club (in season).

Karin is in first grade, reading at a third grade level, and she reads about 3
to 8 hours per week (depending). She loves to read and sometimes we have to pull
her away from that to do other things. She also loves to ski and gets to go 6 or
8 times a season.

Her grades in school are near perfect (with only handwriting and art being good,
but not topped out).

She is healthy, bright, pleasant, well rounded and a good child. All in all, we
could not have been much more blessed.

Personally, I think chess will help her to think spatially. She already has a
good grasp of other mental and physical abilities, chess will just add a
slightly different dimension of thinking. IMO. I am not going to force her to
become a chess prodigy (I would have started her at age 3 if that was my
intent), but I am going to give her any opportunities I can to improve herself
and to succeed in many different endeavors in life.
