I think they have tought Fritz to not play forward it king shelter pawns when
kings have castled (or walked) opposite.

Usually that is a pretty good rule, e.g. for sicilian types positions.

No matter how many rules the program is tought there will always be exceptions,
the only hope is that the search can patch it.

I think Garry just deserves credit for playing an atypical game where the
programs knowledge was counter productive and the lines were too deep for the
program to realize what was going on.

A ply or two wouldn't have mattered that much in that position I think, 10 plies
might have made a difference, who knows...

Well I think the game clearly demonstrates that there is still some way to for
computer chess :-)
