You have a possibly good clue: What is the same about your and your dad's
computer that is different from your friend's computer? Make a list. What
software do you have installed on each? What op system? What version of DirectX?
What version of java? Etc.

Before installing Shredder 7 you should be sure to remove all prior versions of
Chessbase software, so you can start clean. Use the windows Add or Remove
Programs operation in Control Panel. Then I would also suggest renaming or
deleting the associated .ini files such as Chssbase.ini in your Windows folder.
I would also rename or delete the Chessbase folder which is usually found under
My Documents, if you accepted the default installation options, as well as
whatever remains under the Program Files\Chessbase folder. Also if there are
residuals in the Chessprogram8 folder (or similar folders) under Documents and
Settings\Owner\Application Data\ChessBase (or nearby), rename or remove them.
So, be meticulous and clean up everything related to chess software. Then do a
routine system cleanup including deleting temp internet files, cookies, defrag,
then restart your computer, and...

Now you're ready to try the Shredder 7 installation again, but wait...

First you must turn off absolutely all other software. That includes your
anti-virus, firewall, or whatever else you've got. After you'd done the best you
can, close any additional unnecessary processes via Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Anti-virus
software often has at least one process remaining there. Turn it off too.

Then insert the Shredder 7 CD and it should autostart. If not, run the setup.exe
file on the CD and accept the typical installation option.

Report back if it worked...
