Well, I say we have a difference in philosophy between Peter and I. Posts that I would remove immediately would have to be far more objectionable that this. On the other hand, if it an off topic thread got out of hand and/or I received complaints, I would definitly consider removing a post or thread. In my own experience, it's never a clear black and white issue and part of that is that people are human - we are not here just to absorb chess computer questions and answers - or just have chess computer discussions - we are also making friends here. Therefore I would error on the side of being friendly. Questions like the above typically do not go very long. You can generally gauge whether or not an off topic posts hould be removed by considering the following: 1. Are the posts friendly(or funny) or is the topic getting heated? 2. Is just one or two posters or a fair amount of differnt posters responding. 3. Are the posters that are responding in a friendly way long time CCC members? (this list is not all inclusive - but just an example of things you might consider as a moderator) Also , generally when post an offtopic post that is objectionable - somebody usually quickly posts - MODERATION - OFF TOPIC. So like so many other things in life - you just use your best judgement and hope that you make the right decision. Good question! Michael Byrne
