HI Richard >Can anyone suggest the better machine or some alternative that wont break the >bank! it depends on what you are looking for in a dedicated unit both computers are priced about the same if playing strength is all that matters to you,then the Saitek is clearly the stronger of the two if playing in front of a nice-full sized tournament board (with green and white buff squares)and solid ,heavy magnetic pieces appeals to you,then the Excalibur is your baby one problem with the Excalibur and playing in front of your wife.. the computer makes an annoying beeping noise on each and every key-press as well as on each and every move(both yours and the computers) to top it off,you CANNOT disable the sound! so unless your wife is willing to have you beeping at her every few seconds then this could be a significant drawback :)) Quiet Regards Steve
