Well that's a very very hard question to answer. I would say that the OVERALL
strength of the top 5 programs is not significantly different. It perhaps could
be said that fritz 5 is best against computers. I personally feel that
Chessmaster 5500-6000 is the best against the majority of people below 2450-2500
rating. Something that is overlooked is that some programs can play stronger
against person "A" than against Person "B" or computer "B". At the same time
though Program "1" may be weaker against program "2", it could be that "1" is
stronger against human "1" than program "2" is against the human. I hope that's
not too confusing :). Lately some have been saying Mchess but i'm not sure
about this here's a game of 5 I played against Mchess 8.
White R. Takata
Black Mchess 8.0

Ng5+ Kg8 15. Qh5 Ng6 16. Qh7+ Kf8 17. f4 Bb5 18. f5 Bxf1 19. Rxf1 exf5 20.
Rxf5 Qd7 21. Qxg6 Ke7 *
Black resigns
As for Hiarcs 6 well if it has the most human play, then it's because it makes
more mistakes :).
Go with Rebel, or if you enjoy exciting chess the most then go CM6000.
Here's another 5 minutes game against against Junior 5.
