I use a simple rule for this.  Short time = Smaller hash, say 96Mb
For longer, up this to the amount you have, that does not page the hard drive.

A practical example using Chess Tiger 15

Short time = 96Mb

Longer times or in longer games = 384Mb



Rebel 12 short time = 100Mb

Longer = 400Mb Rebel 12,, on dos, or through Win 98 SE
