One thing I do recall, from when I received the Playchess GUI updates for Hiarcs 9, is that you must do absolutely nothing with your computer while the download executes - else it terminates. Maybe that is your problem. In my case I received the update by logging on to the playchess server with Hiarcs GUI, and then was immediately prompted by a dialog box telling me updates were available and did I want to update now, yes or no? Luckily I had a boadband cable modem connection at the time, and the wait was short and endurable. I had allowed the procedure once before, but went back to working on an open document in a text editor during the download - and this caused the download and the Chessbase GUI to terminate.
