Kathe Spracklen, as co-programmer with husband Dan, held the world micro
championship for 5 years (1980 - 1984)

Last November, my girlfriend, who lives in Paris, was happy to visit the WMCCC
in that city. It was held in a fabulous building (the Paris Bourse), there were
free drinks, and the atmosphere was very relaxed - with most players very happy
to talk about what their computers were doing as the games progressed.

On the Saturday (the last day I went), there were quite a few interested women
at the event, and one of the main organisers was a woman.

To the present day:

Nothing encourages women into a new activity more than seeing other women
already doing it.

So, if somebody could organise a womens' computer chess championship, I think
that this would encourage women to make a start in this field.
